Professional golfer Gregory Odom

Gregory Odom Jr., from Memphis Tennessee, graduated from Howard University in Washington DC where he was a standout on the golf team. Gregory was introduced to golf at the age of four when he would often accompany his father to the Irene Golf Course in Memphis. Although he was paired with players more than twice his age, Gregory Jr. got his first win at age eight. He was hooked on the game thereafter and his father continued to help him hone his skills. Through his younger years, Gregory Odom Jr. learned the rules of golf by playing with the First Tee of Memphis. However, his natural talent was built during the time he spent on the course competing with seasoned players.

In high school, Gregory founded the school’s golf team and played soccer. Upon graduating, he was elected to play on the Tennessee Junior Cup Team and was considered one of the best amateur golfers in Memphis as well as Tennessee at large. He was then recruited to play with the University of Memphis men’s golf team.

In 2020, he was offered the opportunity to play with Howard University’s inaugural men’s golf team supported by NBA MVP Stephen Curry. Coach Sam Puryear recognized Gregory’s potential and ensured him that playing with Howard would provide the support and resources to reach the next level.

He won his first PGA Works Division 1 Championship in 2021 after learning the devastating news of his father’s passing. He went on to honor his father’s legacy by winning again in 2022.

Gregory is the 2022 MEAC Conference Champion in addition to being awarded the Bison Golf Most Valuable Player title. He also had back-to back wins at the USF Howard Intercollegiate and the River Run Collegiate. Thus far, Gregory has 5 collegiate wins and is currently the APGA #1 ranked 2022-2023 collegiate player.

Gregory made his PGA debut at the Wells Fargo Championship in 2022. He qualified to play as an amateur on the Korn Ferry Tour in the Memorial Health Championship in 2021 and 2022, as well as the PGA Canada Tour 2022.

He was listed on the Ben Hogan Award watch list as a top collegiate golfer as a result of his accomplishments. There are many titles that Gregory Odom Jr. says he is striving for on his journey but the most important is changemaker.
